Lucas Giolito is set to take the mound tonight in his third start of the season for the Padres. Through 10 innings, he’s allowed three runs on five hits but has also walked eight. The damage could have been much worse than what we’ve seen thus far. Tonight he’ll face one of the most productive offenses in the league (yes, really), where he can’t afford to put men on base. With men on base, the Nationals own a team .334 wOBA with a 113 wRC+ and 36 home runs. All of those stats rank amongst the top 10 in the league. The Nationals have also been one of the best teams at generating early offense, as they average three runs through the first five innings. Not only are they one of two teams averaging at least three runs through five innings, but they trail only the Dodgers in that stat.
Chris Paddack is scheduled to start tonight for the Reds, making his third start since they acquired him. He’s been decent, allowing five runs on 13 hits and eight strikeouts through 10 innings. But as someone who only induces groundballs at a rate of 39%, having Cincinnati as your home ballpark is going to lead to trouble. This is why I like Albies tonight for the Braves. He profiles very well at Great American Ball Park and faces a pitcher who throws a four-seam over 40% of the time. Albies has been crushing this pitch from righties this season and owns a .300 ISO against it with a .413 wOBA.

Jared Jones is making his season debut after a lengthy recovery from Tommy John surgery. This will be his first start since September 27, 2024. This is a low out total, and Jones only needs to complete five innings for the over to hit; however, I think there is a real possibility he goes under. Jones has made five rehab starts in the minors but only went a combined 18.1 innings in those starts. He also hasn’t thrown more than 76 pitches in a start, so while he isn’t on a strict pitch count, it’s something the Pirates will be watching closely. Jones wasn’t particularly sharp in his final two starts in Triple-A either, and it caught my attention for this bet. For the +135 odds we’re getting, I’m more than comfortable with taking a shot here and hoping the Pirates are overly cautious with their 24-year-old starter.
