This comes after he averaged 31.1 points per game during the regular season and 27.1 points per game in the playoffs overall. Gilgeous-Alexander has been held to under 30.5 points in five of the six games in this series.

While the Thunder will need their star player to deliver in this Game 7, the Spurs deserve plenty of credit for forcing these struggles. Victor Wembanyama is a game-changing defensive talent, and the rest of the San Antonio roster has plenty of rugged defenders around him. This series has brought the expected playoff physicality, and Gilgeous-Alexander has not been able to shoot better than 50% from the field in a matchup yet. But his absence puts even more on-ball responsibility onto Gilgeous-Alexander’s shoulders. Players like Jared McCain and Alex Caruso are proving to be capable of scaling up their roles. But they are better used moving off-ball and primarily in catch-and-shoot opportunities.
