Garion Thorne previews and breaks down everything you need to know about the Miami Dolphins heading into the 2026 NFL Draft.
It’s a rebuilding year in Miami. Time is a flat circle.
Jokes aside, this is really a rebuilding year for the Dolphins. As in, the organization finally parted ways with GM Chris Grier, who had somehow been in the position since 2016 despite never winning a playoff game. Head coach Mike McDaniel was also shown the door after four seasons in South Florida, finishing his tenure with a 35-33 regular season record (0-2 in the postseason).
Long-time Packers executive Jon-Eric Sullivan now has the reigns of this franchise, along with former Green Bay defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, who was hired as the new HC. The duo wasted little time in overhauling the Dolphins’ bloated and oddly expensive roster. Gone are the likes of Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Minkah Fitzpatrick and Bradley Chubb. Sullivan has made no secrets about Miami’s path back to relevance in the NFL: Its going to build through the Draft. It’s going to be about youth.
Fortunately for all parties involved, the Dolphins have an absolute treasure chest full of draft capital in 2026. Let’s break it all down.
Where’s the “everything” box to check on this form?
The Dolphins basically just let every veteran player they have walk, and they’re in salary cap Hell due to all the dead money left over. It’s a good thing that the team has 11 picks in this year’s draft, because there are no shortage of holes to fill on this roster.
That said, the most glaring need is at wide receiver and corner. Outside of De’Von Achane, Miami is embarrassingly light on talent at the skill positions, with Tutu Atwell, Jalen Tolbert and Malik Washington currently sitting atop the depth chart at WR. On the other side of the ball, the Dolphins are rolling with a lot of UDFAs and one-year contracts at CB. Miami’s secondary looked underwhelming coming into last season, yet this current group makes that collection of corners seem like a Pro Bowl squad. That’s probably a red flag.
