Oscar-winning documentary Mr Nobody Against Putin, Emmy winners Adolescence and The Pitt, in-the-zeitgeist shows including Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Pluribus and Heated Rivalry, and news and interactive specials touching on the war in Gaza, immigration, ICE and the Los Angeles wildfires are among the winners of the 86th annual Peabody Awards revealed Thursday.

A total of 34 winners were chosen among 68 nominees that spotlighted what the Peabodys annually deem the most captivating and inspiring stories released in broadcasting and streaming media in the last year.

The categories spanned Entertainment, Documentary, News, Podcast and Radio, Arts, Children’s / Youth and Interactive & Immersive genres.

ABC’s Kimmel, who was briefly removed from the airwaves in a public scrap with Donald Trump’s FCC, was cited by Peabody jurors for his “master class in public apology for the comments about Charlie Kirk that supposedly got him suspended while nevertheless, and doggedly, asserting his rights to criticize the president and MAGA movement that sought to silence him.”

HBO Max’s Heated Rivalry, meanwhile, was noted for balancing “complex themes of sexuality and emotional connection, inspiring fans and promoting non-toxic masculinity, ultimately making what was arguably the biggest cultural impact in television this year.”

The Peabodys also cited ABC News and KABC-Los Angeles’ coverage of the devastating L.A. wildfires in January 2025 as their “reporting showcased both the unfolding disaster and the resilience of the community, demonstrating a commitment to responsible journalism during a critical time.”

Other notable winners revealed today included the series Andor, The Rehearsal and Forever in the Entertainment category; and No Other Land, Come See Me in the Good Light, Pee-wee As Himself and Put Your Soul On Your Hand and Walk in Documentary. Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson’s doc Sly Lives! (a.k.a. The Burden of Black Genius) was a recipient in the Arts category. The lone Children’s / Youth winner this year is Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.

HBO Max received the most wins among platforms this year with six, followed by Apple TV, Disney+, Hulu, Netflix and PBS which each had two.

The Peabodys, organized by the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism, will honor their winners in a ceremony May 31 at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. During that event, Amy Poehler will be honored with the Peabody Career Achievement Award; Sterlin Harjo with the Peabody Trailblazer Award; James L. Brooks with the Peabody Industry Icon Award; and PBS Kids with the Peabody Institutional Award.
