Man on Fire burned brightly ahead of the pack on Netflix‘s English TV rankings last week. The series, starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, took in 12.6M views from May 4 to 10.
That’s in addition to the 11M views it secured in its first few days on the platform after launching on April 30. This marks a pretty solid start for the series, but it’ll be a while before it could potentially break into the most popular list. That would also require some sustained buzz around the series, so the next few weeks will be telling.
Man on Fire was quite far ahead of all its TV competition on Netflix, with second place going to Should I Marry a Murderer? The docuseries, which recounts a woman’s experience after her husband admits to murder, built up 8M views for the week.
Season 2 of Worst Ex Ever came in closely behind at No. 3, also with 8M views. Fourth place went to Legends with 3.4M views, and Running Point Season 2 rounded out the top five with 3.3M views.
While Netflix had high hopes for the recently launched adaptation of Lord of the Flies, that appears to be sputtering out in the U.S. The series took No. 8 on the English TV list with 2.5M views after premiering on the streamer on May 4.
The four-part adaptation previously aired on BBC, but this is the first time the show is available in the U.S. Of course, since the series is not available on Netflix globally, that does hinder its performance, but the U.S. typically drives a large portion of the English-language viewing on Netflix.
For comparison, Adolescence premiered at No. 1 in the U.S. The series raked in 24.5M views globally in its first few days post-launch, but Netflix doesn’t report viewership by territory, so the U.S.-only number is unknown. Lord of the Flies came in at No. 3 in the U.S. last week. It remains to be seen whether word of mouth might generate more interest in the coming weeks.
