The incident occurred at approximately 1.30am at the Bank of Ireland premises in East Gate Village, Little Island, and involved the use of an industrial telehandler.

Extensive damage was caused to the building during the incident, a garda spokesperson said. 

It is understood that the external ATM, which was mounted on the outside of the banking premises, was then removed and stolen.

A technical examination of the scene has since been carried out, and investigations are ongoing. 

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to come forward.

Any persons or motorists who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the Little Island area including along the N25 Westbound between Junction 3 Cobh Cross and Junction 2 Little Island between 9pm and 6am on the 9th / 10th of June 2026, is asked to make this available to Gardaí.

The incident is the second ATM-related incident in Cork in less than two weeks, following the attempted theft of an ATM from Dano’s SuperValu in Mallow on June 1.

It is understood that a JCB vehicle was also used in that incident. However, the assailants were unsuccessful in removing the ATM.

An Garda Síochána said investigations into the Mallow incident are also ongoing.
