Datadog + SOC 2 Type II: Our constant commitment to security

James Kirk

James Kirk is Datadog’s director of IT governance, risk management, and compliance.

In Datadog’s continuing efforts to help our customers better visualize the health and performance of their applications and systems, we have maintained our focus on security as a top-level business priority. Security and privacy of our customers’ data is always in the forefront of our design, development, and deployment concerns. To that end, Datadog has continued to pursue key independent third-party validations of its security, processes, and services.

We are pleased, then, to announce the availability of our SOC 2 Type II report as of November 30, 2017, as proof of our continued commitment to openness and protecting customer data at the highest levels.

Reaffirming our commitment to security

This announcement, following less than a year after the publication of our SOC 2 Type I report, comes at a time of heightened interest and activity in the realm of privacy and security, with the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) going live and increased public attention to important issues of personal privacy and security in the expanding cloud environment.

Datadog continues to embrace its core business practice of rendering transparency to our security efforts so customers know exactly how seriously we take their partnership. To that end, the SOC 2 Type II report is validation of our ongoing efforts to improve security and provide a level of assurance to our customers. Partnering with Coalfire Systems, a respected third-party auditing agency, our compliance with controls relating to security, availability, processing integrity, and confidentiality, as detailed in Trust Services Principles and Criteria, were evaluated over a six-month period.

Datadog remains committed to its security philosophy of employing a multi-layer design to safeguard data, and we continue to develop and follow evolving security and compliance best practices that address the very latest in regulatory and privacy requirements. Of course, we continuously perform monitoring and security scanning on both our network and applications to ensure that our systems are secure today. In addition, we are always guided by our experts’ extrapolation of industry security trends that will meet future needs.

Looking ahead

Security is paramount to us at Datadog, and the successful completion of the SOC 2 Type II audit is only one of our many efforts to continuously provide and ensure a safe, secure environment for customer data.

Look for announcements soon for our approach on data privacy related to GDPR and other security updates. And as always, feel free to send any questions or concerns to either help@datadoghq.com or security@datadoghq.com.
