Rueben Bain Jr. has officially put pen to paper on his rookie contract with the Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have lost several important players this offseason, but they have also brought a handful of new faces to town, too. Perhaps the most exciting addition the team has made this offseason is former Miami Hurricanes defensive lineman Rueben Bain Jr., who was selected with the No. 15 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Bain will look to provide a boost to the Bucs’ pass rush, which could desperately use some help after it racked up just 37 total sacks last season. The first order of business for Bain, though, involved taking care of his rookie contract, and it appears as if the two sides managed to come to terms on his big-money deal.

Rueben Bain Jr. Signs Four-Year, $23.75 Million Contract with Buccaneers

Buccaneers first-round pick Rueben Bain Jr. signed his four-year, fully-guaranteed rookie deal worth about $23.75 million.

The 2025 Buccaneers had a lot of problems, one of which was their inability to consistently get to the quarterback. YaYa Diaby led the way with seven sacks, but nobody else on the team had more than five, with Vita Vea having the next highest total at 4.5. The fact that Vea, a nose tackle, had the second-most sacks paints the full picture of Tampa Bay’s trouble when it comes to getting to the quarterback.

Bain should be able to help out in that department immediately. A three-year starter for Miami, Bain consistently found a way to blow up plays along the defensive line, both in the run and pass game. He earned All-American honors and the SEC Defensive Player of the Year Award in 2025 after he racked up 54 tackles, 9.5 sacks, one interception, one forced fumble, and one pass breakup in 16 games of action.

As a first-round pick, Bain’s rookie contract was largely predetermined based on where he got selected in the draft. Still, we saw last year with Shemar Stewart and the Cincinnati Bengals that issues can pop up in these negotiations that can cause some serious problems. Nothing of that sort happened for Tampa Bay, though, as it managed to get Bain to put pen to paper on his four-year, $23.75 million rookie contract on Thursday.

“Buccaneers first-round pick Rueben Bain Jr. signed his four-year, fully-guaranteed rookie deal worth about $23.75 million,” Adam Schefter of ESPN reported in a post on X.

Buccaneers Hoping Rueben Bain Jr. Can Become an Immediate Star

As is the case with every first-round rookie’s contract, the Bucs have a fifth-year team option that they must make a decision on after Bain’s third season in the league. Should the team want to exercise that option, there’s a decent chance that Bain will find himself angling for a new contract by the time this decision must be made.

There are a lot of new players headlining Tampa Bay’s defense, but it’s clear that Bain could very well become the star of the bunch. His production in college indicates he can be a disruptive presence who can win games for his team, and if he can come in and make an immediate impact for the Bucs, that could go a long way towards helping them return to the playoffs in 2026.
