CBS Sports' Tyler Sullivan predicted quarterback Aaron Rodgers to retire and the Pittsburgh Steelers to sign Malik Willis.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have yet to re-sign legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers this offseason. Now, the rumors of him possibly going to another NFL team are starting to increase. One of those other teams could be the Arizona Cardinals. In fact, veteran wide receiver Kendrick Bourne is already on the recruiting trail.
However, according to ESPN NFL insider Josh Weinfuss, Rodgers going to the Cardinals may not be as real as people think. In fact, he asked a source close to the situation. The source replied with three words:
“Not at all.”

The fact of the matter is that Rodgers fits the Steelers’ mold much better than he would fit the Cardinals’ mold. Everything about Pittsburgh’s roster screams experience and formidability. The hiring of Mike McCarthy also showed fans that the team isn’t interested in rebuilding. Plus, the acquisitions of two-time 1,000-yard wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr., back-to-back 1,000-yard rusher Rico Dowdle, and Super Bowl champion cornerback Jamel Dean weren’t just random moves.

If Rodgers were to return, he would rejoin the likes of future Hall of Fame defensive tackle Cam Heyward and superstar edge-rusher T.J. Watt, as well as Pro Bowl wide receiver DK Metcalf. The Cardinals simply don’t have the experience and winning culture that the Steelers have. Not only have they only made the playoffs just once in the last decade, but they also just hired a first-time head coach in Mike LaFleur. Rodgers likely isn’t going to want to start over for the third consecutive season on the final hole of his illustrious career.

If Pittsburgh was able to contend last season with a bottom-half-of-the-league unit on both sides of the football in 2025, could the breath of fresh air that McCarthy brings in lead them further in 2026? Specifically on offense, the Steelers finished the year ranked 25th in total offense. McCarthy’s specialties are quarterback development and play-calling. Linking up with his old Green Bay Packers quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, could also help the Steelers find an offensive explosion. Rodgers won two MVPs and made seven Pro Bowls under McCarthy’s leadership.
In his first season with the Steelers, despite battling age and a fractured wrist, Rodgers recorded 25 total touchdowns and threw just seven interceptions. He also posted a passer rating of 94.8. A reunion with McCarthy could greatly help him recapture even more of his NFL youth.
With the team being somewhat remade this offseason instead of being rebuilt, it could be more than just a division title contender. With a pair of big-bodied wide receivers and a pair of 1,000-yard scrimmage backs on offense, along with stars on every level of the defense, the Steelers could be legit. If Rodgers decides to return for at least one more run, this team will have a great chance to be much better than 10-7.
