Jonah Hill’s ‘Cut Off’ Loses July Release Date From Warne...

Jonah Hill and Kristen Wiig‘s forthcoming comedy Cut Off is waiting for the right moment to branch out.

The Warner Bros. feature does not currently have a release date after it was previously scheduled to hit theaters on July 17, which The Hollywood Reporter has learned in light of the movie not being named at CinemaCon among the studio’s list of 2026 releases. Hill directs the movie from a script he wrote with Ezra Woods, and a new release date for the project is expected to be announced soon.

Cut Off centers on a pair of siblings whose wealthy parents stop supporting them financially. Bette Midler, Nathan Lane, Adriana Barraza, Camila Cabello and Chelsea Peretti round out the cast. Hill, Matt Dines and Ali Goodwin serve as producers for Strong Baby.

Hill discussed the project during his appearance for SmartLess Live at the Hollywood Palladium on Saturday. The star described the film as “pure stupidity” and noted that co-star Wiig is a “national treasure.”

He told the crowd, “I’m about to go on a run of just the dumbest shit you’ve ever seen in your entire life. I hope you left your brains at home. It’s called Cut Off, and Kristen Wiig and I play two dumbass heirs — rich kids in their mid-40s who get cut off by their rich parents, played by Bette Midler and Nathan Lane. It is like Step Brothers, Clueless and Trading Places. Classic comedy.”

The star gave a shout-out to Warner Bros. film bosses Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy for planning a theatrical release and added, “We are trying to bring comedy back to theaters.”

Hill recently helmed and stars opposite Keanu Reeves and Cameron Diaz in the dark comedy feature Outcome, which launched on Apple TV last month. Hill previously directed Mid90s and the Netflix documentary Stutz, while his other recent onscreen credits include You PeopleDon’t Look UpThe Beach Bum and Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot.

Wiig voices Roboto is this summer’s live-action Masters of the Universe movie. She starred on the series Palm Royale and played the villain in last year’s Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie.
