Nextcloud renews its Silver sponsorship of MariaDB Foundation - MariaDB.org
Anna Widenius · 2026-07-03 · via MariaDB.org

MariaDB Foundation is pleased to announce that Nextcloud has renewed its Silver sponsorship for another year.

Nextcloud and MariaDB are widely used together by organisations that want greater control over their data and infrastructure. Both projects form part of a broader open-source ecosystem that enables businesses, public-sector organisations and individuals to build digital services without unnecessary dependence on proprietary platforms.

Over the past year, our collaboration has also developed through the Privacy-First Solution Stack, which brings together Nextcloud, Passbolt and MariaDB Server in a practical open-source architecture for secure collaboration, password management and data storage.

The stack helps organisations understand how established open-source technologies can work together as part of a coherent deployment, particularly where privacy, operational control and data governance are important requirements.

“Digital sovereignty means having real freedom of choice: being able to understand, operate and change the technology on which your organisation depends,” said Frank Karlitschek, founder and CEO of Nextcloud. “That requires strong open-source projects and an ecosystem of technologies that work well together. By continuing our sponsorship of MariaDB Foundation and collaborating through initiatives such as the Privacy-First Solution Stack, we are helping make sovereign, practical alternatives easier for organisations to deploy.”

“Nextcloud and MariaDB are a natural combination for organisations that want to retain control over their infrastructure and data,” said Anna Widenius, CEO of MariaDB Foundation. “Our collaboration is increasingly focused on making that combination easier to understand and deploy in practice. Nextcloud’s renewed sponsorship gives us a strong basis for continuing this work together and for showing how mature open-source technologies can form complete, credible alternatives to proprietary platforms.”

Nextcloud’s renewed sponsorship contributes to MariaDB Foundation’s work across the MariaDB Server ecosystem, including community engagement, technical collaboration, documentation and practical solution architectures.

MariaDB Foundation thanks Nextcloud for its continued commitment and looks forward to developing the collaboration further during the coming year.
