Community Day 2026: Save the date! – Open Home Foundation
2026-08-13 · via Home Assistant

You’ve been asking all year, and the wait is over… Mark your calendars, because Community Day 2026 will be held on Saturday, November 7! 🎉

We’ve made some exciting changes this year, so read on for a sneak peek 👀

You asked, we listened

In May 2025, we held the first-ever Home Assistant Community Day. It was a labor of love of mine, and its success cannot be overstated. I published a blog about this milestone a month after the day was held, detailing our learnings from coordinating a worldwide event. One of the clearest takeaways was that organizers needed more lead time to plan and promote their local events – and that’s exactly why I’m publishing this blog today 😌

Packed rooms at last year’s event!

Same as last time round, this year’s event is being held on a Saturday, and we worked very hard to choose a date that would have the least impact on regional holidays. That said, a few things have also changed since last year, and we wanted to get you up to speed.

Come one, come all

You may notice a couple things are different this year. The most obvious one being that this is posted on the Open Home Foundation blog and not just the Home Assistant blog. If you’re wondering why, that’s because this year we decided we needed to include the communities from all of the foundation’s major projects and not focus so heavily on Home Assistant. So if you’re only interested in hosting an ESPHome or Music Assistant meetup for this year’s Community Day, you can now do so without feeling like it doesn’t belong on our calendar.

A palette for the people

The more subtle change this year is that I’ve asked our very talented graphic designers to update the event’s color palette to more broadly represent the Open Home Foundation. We decided to work with the same color palette we use across our websites for one of the foundation’s three core principles: sustainability. I chose this because the community ✨ sustains ✨ us at the foundation (yes, I think I am very funny 🤭).

Hosts: Hit send!

Since Luma has honored your contact preferences, we can’t rely on it to reach out to everyone who hosted a meetup for last year’s Community Day. So if that’s you, please contact us! We’ve created a Discord channel for you to post in and we want to make sure you have a role specific to your, well, role in meetups!

And on the subject of supporting hosts, there’s a lot that’s new this year to ensure your day runs smoothly. We’ll have a dedicated website that will update dynamically when new meetups are added to the Luma calendar, with updated reimbursement guidelines, a merch request form, and a Host Playbook for guidance on hosting your local meetup 👏

Let’s get specific… in September

In early September, we’ll have all the details ready for you, including opening up submissions on the Community Day Luma calendar, all the graphic assets, and the event’s website up and running for everyone to get started. Just let us get through IFA Berlin first 😅
