Review Introduction: Premium 240mm AIO Liquid Cooling Goes Ultra-Quiet

Noctua entering the all-in-one liquid cooling market is not a small move. For years, the company has been almost synonymous with premium air cooling, acoustically optimized fans, and mounting systems that tend to outlive multiple CPU generations. With the NL-LC1-24, Noctua takes that same design philosophy and applies it to a compact 240mm closed-loop liquid cooler. This is not positioned as a flashy RGB showcase product or a screen-equipped pump block designed to dominate a tempered-glass side panel. Instead, the NL-LC1-24 is very much a Noctua product: sober, technical, acoustic-first, and built around the idea that cooling performance only matters when the noise profile remains civilized.

The NL-LC1-24 is the smallest model in the NL-LC1 family, using a 240mm radiator paired with two 120mm NF-A12x25 G2 PWM fans. That makes it the most broadly compatible model of the series and especially interesting for compact mid-towers, smaller ATX systems, and certain SFF or ITX builds that support 240mm radiators. While 360mm and 420mm AIOs will obviously have more thermal surface area, the 240mm format remains the sweet spot for many real-world systems, where case clearance, motherboard spacing, memory height, and radiator positioning all matter just as much as raw dissipation capacity. At the heart of the cooler sits Asetek’s Emma V2 platform, a premium closed-loop liquid cooling base that Noctua has paired with its own acoustic and mechanical refinements. The most important addition is the NL-PNA1 pump noise absorber. This is arguably the defining feature of the NL-LC1 series and the part that separates it from the many Asetek-based AIOs already on the market. Rather than simply placing a decorative cap over the pump, Noctua has engineered a damping structure that combines acoustic soundproofing with a tuned-mass damper effect. The goal is twofold: reduce airborne pump noise and limit structure-borne vibration before it can travel into the motherboard, chassis, or pump housing. The NL-PNA1 uses a three-layer soundproofing design. A soft open-pore foam layer sits close to the pump to target higher-frequency noise, a denser mass barrier helps block and reflect lower-frequency energy, and a second open-pore layer deals with residual noise that passes through the first two sections. In mechanical terms, the soft layers and floating silicone mounting also act as spring components, while the denser internal mass and outer shell work as mass nodes to counteract pump vibration. The result is not just a lower measured noise level, but a smoother and less intrusive sound character. That matters because pump noise is often more noticeable than fan noise, especially when it contains tonal peaks, higher-frequency buzzing, or subtle resonance. The radiator side of the equation is equally Noctua-like. The NL-LC1-24 uses two NF-A12x25 G2 PWM fans, which are among the company’s most refined 120mm models. These fans are not simply included as generic radiator spinners; they are central to the product’s identity. Noctua also applies a slight fan speed offset between the two fans to avoid acoustic interaction, beat frequencies, periodic humming, and vibration build-up. It is the kind of detail that may not look impressive on a retail box, yet can make a meaningful difference once the system is installed in a quiet room.

Compatibility has clearly been given attention as well. The NL-LC1-24 uses a slim 30mm radiator combined with 25mm fans, keeping total radiator-and-fan thickness manageable. The pump height is specified with compact builds in mind, and the cooler uses Noctua’s SecuFirm2+ mounting system with support for AMD AM5 and AM4 as well as Intel LGA1851 and LGA1700. Offset mounting options are included for AMD AM5 and Intel LGA1851, shifting the cooler contact position toward the CPU hotspot to improve heat transfer where it matters most. Noctua also includes NT-H2 thermal compound and an AM5 thermal paste guard, again showing the company’s tendency to address the smaller practical details around installation and long-term usability. The NL-LC1-24 is therefore not merely a “Noctua-branded AIO.” It is a liquid cooler built around established Asetek hardware, but differentiated through acoustic engineering, fan selection, mounting pressure optimization, and quality control. Each unit undergoes acoustic testing after final assembly, and the package carries a six-year warranty. That fits the target audience well: users who want liquid cooling performance, but not at the cost of pump whine, fan drone, or unnecessary display hardware.
