Guilherme Candido, 23, is charged with leaving the scene of personal injury and death following a fatal crash, records show.

A Lowell man faces criminal charges after allegedly hitting and killing a pedestrian, then fleeing the scene on Sunday.

Guilherme Candido, 23, turned himself in to authorities Tuesday night after a warrant was issued for his arrest, prosecutors said.

Candido is charged with one felony count of leaving the scene of personal injury and death following a fatal crash, the office of Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Lowell Police Superintendent Gregory Hudon said in a press release.

Candido pleaded not guilty to all charges, court records show said.

The night of May 24, police were notified that a pedestrian had been hit on Pawtucket Boulevard in Lowell, officials said.

Police found a 29-year-old woman in the roadway. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she died from her injuries, officials said.

Using footage from surveillance cameras and FLOCK cameras, police identified Candido as the alleged driver of the Ford Explorer that hit the woman, officials said.

Candido is being held on a $7,500 cash bond. If he posts bail, he will have to wear a GPS monitoring device and cannot drive a car, court records show. He must also surrender his passport, court records show.

ICE will take Candido into custody after his criminal case concludes, court records show.

Candido is scheduled to appear in court on June 25 for a probable cause hearing, court records show.

An attorney for Candido did not respond to a request for comment Thursday night.
