By JON MICHAEL RAASCH, WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENT

Published: | Updated:

Donald Trump has been targeted repeatedly by would-be assassins, but despite the many attempts, Democratic voters do not fear that the President's life is in danger.

The President has had at least three attempts on his life, most recently at the White House Correspondents' Dinner this April.

Though most liberal voters do not fear for Trump's life at all, according to the latest Daily Mail/JL partners survey.

The survey of over 1,000 registered voters found that 73 percent of Kamala Harris voters do not fear for Trump's life at all. The survey was taken from May 15 - 18, and the margin of error is 3.1 percent.

When it comes to Trump voters, 16 percent said they do not fear at all for the Republican's life.

Meanwhile, nearly half, or 46 percent, of Trump voters fear a lot for the President's life.

Overall, one in four respondents, or 24 percent, worry about Trump being targeted in another assassination plot, following the shooting at the press dinner.

In addition to the WHCD shooting, Trump survived two other assassination attempts against him in 2024, including one in Butler, Pennsylvania, and another at his West Palm Beach golf resort just weeks later.

Secret Service swarm around President Trump after gunshots are heard at the White House Correspondents Dinner on April 25, 2026.

Trump has said the threats on his life are a good reason to build the White House ballroom, which he argues will be a safe venue for top US and foreign officials

There was also another close call in February when 21-year-old Austin Tucker Martin of North Carolina breached Mar-a-Lago with a shotgun before being shot and killed.

This incident is often glossed over as Trump was not home at the time.

Trump has used the latest attempt on his life at the WHCD to call for the construction of his White House ballroom, which he says will have enhanced security measures to protect high-level delegations.

'What happened at the White House Correspondents' Dinner can't happen here,' Trump said while standing outside of the ballroom construction site on Tuesday.

However, most respondents do not support the President's pet project.

Just 30 percent voiced support for the multi-year ballroom project, while a majority, 53 percent, oppose it.

Support for the new ballroom shrinks even further when respondents were asked if they support building it with taxpayer money.

Trump originally said he would raise $400 million in funds for the project privately. The Senate later attempted to allocate $1 billion for security upgrades.

That gambit was shot down by the Senate rule keeper, the parliamentarian, who gets to rule what is and what isn't included in particular legislation.

The President reportedly has pressured Republican Senate Majority Leader John Thune to fire the parliamentarian for refusing to allow the funding for the ballroom.
