Moment balaclava-clad thieves use a stolen telehandler to...

Brazen ram raiders in black balaclavas used a stolen telehandler to smash into a Nationwide and steal the cash machine.

The raid unfolded just after 3am on Tuesday in the Cambridgeshire market town of Ramsey, near Huntingdon.

Shocking CCTV footage showed the forklift-style vehicle extending its crane and charging into the building society wall multiple times.

The driver of a blue truck runs over to a red sports car and gets cables out of the boot, while the other driver keeps watch.

At one stage a white van, which appears to have nothing to do with the raid, arrives. The driver keeping lookout in the street holds up his hand to stop the van coming any further up the street.

Once the wall has been smashed, the gang lift out the ATM with the crane then, using the cables, stows it in the back of the blue truck.

The truck then drives off, followed by the red car, with the digger left abandoned in the middle of the high street.

Only then can the white van move forward as the cars race off out of the town.

Detectives want to hear from witnesses or anyone with information that could help the investigation.

Cambridgeshire police said: 'Detectives are appealing for information following a ram raid at a building society in Ramsey.

'Police were called at 3.17am today (16 June) to Nationwide Building Society, in High Street, with reports that a stolen telehandler, along with two other vehicles, was used to remove a cash machine from the front of the premises.

'Officers are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident, saw suspicious vehicles or activity in the area at the time, or has dashcam, doorbell or CCTV footage that could assist the investigation.'

The Nationwide Building Society said: 'We are aware of the incident at our branch in Ramsey which happened early this morning.

'We are working to reopen the branch in the coming days and replace the ATM as soon as possible.

'In the meantime, customers can visit one of our nearby branches for face-to-face service, such as Whittlesey.

'We recommend checking locations and opening hours on our website.'
