A set of walkie talkies sold in Kmart and Target have been urgently recalled over concerns Australians would be breaking the law if they used them.
The notice was issued on Friday by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) for the Anko Long Range Walkie Talkie.
The affected item has a talking range of up to 500m, with the specific model number 43577156 at Kmart and 71215020 at Target.
'The walkie talkie has been programmed with radio frequencies that require a licence for use in Australia,' the ACMA recall read.
'Using the equipment in its current state may cause interference with other licensed services operating on the 467.425 MHz band and cause unintended disruption.'
It is understood the frequency is typically used by councils, transport operators and mining companies for official communications and, if unlicensed, it would break the Radiocommunications Act 1992.
The recall affects Australians who purchased the items between September 30, 2025, and February 6, 2025, either in-store or online across the country.
'Stop use of the walkie talkie immediately,' the notice read. 'Return the item to the place of purchase for a full refund.'
