Moment Mercedes almost mows down pedestrian during 100mph...

A Mercedes driver almost mowed down a pedestrian as they led police on a terrifying 100mph chase before crashing into a tree.

The chase began after officers were alerted to reports that a Mercedes CLC had been stolen and was heading towards Greater Manchester.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police (GMP) caught up with the car and began pursuing the Mercedes and another vehicle on Hollyhedge Road in Wythenshawe.

Shocking dashcam footage showed the moment police began pursuing the two vehicles at speed, as the cars ran red lights and one driver veered onto the wrong side of the road.

Unable to follow both vehicles, one of the officers told his colleague to 'stick with the Mercedes'.

As the suspect tries to evade the police, it maneuvers to turn right before mounting the pavement and narrowly missing a pedestrian.

The pedestrian fell backwards into the road and was fortunate not to be hit by the Mercedes which made a sharp right turn at speed shortly afterwards.

The driver then takes another right-hand turn at speed and crashes into a tree on a residential road in Benchill.

As the Mercedes mounted a pavement, it barely missed a pedestrian, causing them to topple into the road

The car eventually crashed into a tree after speeding round a right hand corner

The driver attempted to make a getaway on foot but was arrested at the scene by officers

The driver exits the vehicle and attempts to flee as officers chase after him.

A man, aged in his 30s, was arrested on suspicion of burglary and dangerous driving.

He remains in custody to be questioned in relation to the incident.

Police confirmed they were pursuing two vehicles, but said they had not managed to track the second vehicle yet, but investigations are ongoing.

Inspector Tony Allt from GMP's Tactical Vehicle Interception Unit said: 'This was a high-speed and potentially dangerous incident which almost saw an innocent member of the public injured while out on the street.

'The driver of the Mercedes showed complete disregard for the safety of others, driving at speeds of 100mph across a usually busy junction – thankfully – at that time of the morning, there were no other vehicles on the road.

'Our collaborative work with other forces that we are linked with was clear to see last night, we acted upon Cheshire's information and arrested the suspect all within a few hours. The suspect remains in custody, and it is another person off the streets who thinks they are above the law.'
