Just before starting up an Aston Martin Vanquish, everything seems to stop for a split second. The stillness makes the first sonorous notes of the Vanquish’s 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12 resonate even more as it splits the momentary silence, ready to roll out 823 horsepower and a top speed of 214 mph.
Equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission, an electronically controlled limited-slip differential, and rear-wheel drive, the Vanquish is true to its name. Merriam-Webster defines vanquish as “to overcome in battle/subdue completely” or alternately, “to gain mastery over." Aston Martin’s Vanquish, in all of its elegant glory, fulfills even the loftiest wishes for primacy.
One of the beautiful things about the Vanquish is that it’s attractive without being flashy. It doesn’t scream, it asserts itself with British decorum. The flush door handles melt into the body like melted platinum and its LED headlamps glow with a distinctive pattern. Aston Martin calls it “rakish and indulgent." I call it magnificent.

It goes without saying that a V12 generates massive power to propel the Vanquish. Yet the supercar somehow transforms from grand tourer to track superstar without blinking. Rolling on staggered 21-inch wheels shod with Pirelli P Zero tires, the Vanquish feels incredibly balanced and even. The acceleration is breathtaking and addictive. So pay attention, or you’ll find yourself doing 100 mph on the highway and wondering why red and blue lights are flashing behind you.

As for fuel economy, the EPA says the Vanquish gets 13 mpg city and 21 mpg highway. Yes, it swigs gas like my teenage son guzzles milk. But who’s counting? It’s a Vanquish. Forget about the gas and just cruise. While you’re at it, take advantage of the 15-speaker Bowers & Wilkins double amplified surround sound system with your choice of tunes. I highly recommend the deep bass notes of Muse’s “Uprising” or Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Higher Ground.”
Don’t expect self-driving technology in the Vanquish. This car is for people who love to drive, not being driven.

This supercar is built for two, ensconcing you and a passenger in plush luxury. Sports Plus seats are standard and carbon fiber performance seats are optional. Two digital displays show off Aston Martin’s new system, replacing the outdated Mercedes-Benz infotainment setup it was using before. It’s much more intuitive and streamlined, a welcome update for this flagship coupe.
Aston Martin is limiting production of the 2026 Vanquish to just 1,000 examples. While the starting price is $429,000, the brand fully expects buyers to take advantage of its custom studio. For instance, other niceties include an optional cashmere headliner, among other bespoke features.
The Vanquish I’m testing includes a stunning Q Satin finish that adds $19,500 to the total price, along with an $10,800 Moonstone interior and an eye-popping $27,400 carbon fiber and metal package. The titanium exhaust system is a nice touch for an additional $14,400. All together, this Vanquish rings in at $635,300. If you have the means, you won’t be disappointed.
