Progress rarely comes from a single grand gesture. More often, it builds on ordinary, intentional decisions: a shopper’s choice to repair rather than replace, a developer’s effort to bake accessibility and accountability into core design, or a company’s commitment to supporting global operations with 100% renewable energy.
Our 2025 Impact Report, published today, brings the collective force of these acts into focus. It highlights how eBay’s people, platform, and technology have expanded opportunity while making commerce more circular and inclusive.

Economic Opportunity
At eBay, our growth is tied to the success of our community. Our marketplace thrives on the resilience of small businesses, which in 2025 accounted for approximately 70% of total sales GMV across the U.S., U.K., and Germany — our three highest-demand markets. In turn, we support these entrepreneurs by building pathways to opportunity and investing in their continued growth.
In 2025, eBay launched AI Activate in partnership with OpenAI to help equip up to 10,000 U.K. small businesses with advanced AI tools and training. OPEN25 brought nearly 10,000 sellers together in person and online to learn, connect, and celebrate eBay’s 30th anniversary. And through the Small Business Advocacy Network (SBAN), eBay continued helping sellers bring their experiences directly into policy conversations shaping the future of ecommerce and small business around the world.
This spirit of empowerment also defines our philanthropic work. In 2025, eBay for Charity again broke records by enabling our community to raise nearly $198 million for nonprofits worldwide, bringing the total raised to more than $1.7 billion since 2003.
eBay Foundation granted more than $17 million to organizations breaking down barriers to entrepreneurship, advancing a legacy that has now awarded nearly $150 million to more than 1,800 nonprofits.
For eBay, sustainability and commerce go hand in hand. In 2025, we continued embedding sustainability across our business to advance commerce practices that reduce our overall environmental footprint.

We are helping to reduce waste and emissions while creating new opportunities for our buyers and sellers. In 2025, recommerce on our site generated $5.3 billion in positive economic impact, up $300 million since last year. Best of all, these sales helped avoid 1.6 million metric tons of carbon emissions and divert more than 71,000 metric tons of waste from landfills (the equivalent of 27 Olympic pools) — all while driving value for our buyers and sellers.
In 2025, we achieved our five-year recommerce goals, exceeding each of the targets we set in avoiding emissions, diverting waste, and driving positive economic impact.
For the second consecutive year, eBay maintained our use of 100% renewable energy to support all global operations, including data centers, even as our business grew. You can see how this work comes to life and helps support our climate ambitions in our new Climate Transition Plan, which outlines a path to reducing emissions across our operations and value chain.
Our mission to build connected communities begins with an internal culture of growth and care for our employees.
In 2025, eBay invested heavily in employee development. We hosted two global LearnFest AI Days, engaging more than 4,000 employees with topics ranging from practical productivity tips to advanced AI applications. Additionally, nearly 3,000 people leaders gained new insight into management and team development by engaging in our leadership courses.
We enhanced benefits designed to support employee health. In 2025, we continued offering no-cost cancer early detection for eligible U.S. employees, expanded our women’s health program to include men’s health support, and launched an AI-powered Benefits Assistant for on-demand guidance.
This culture of care extends to our local communities, where more than 2,350 eBay Changemakers volunteered more than 60,000 hours to support the causes that matter most to them.
Trust is the most critical component of our marketplace. As we harness the potential of AI to create magical experiences for our customers, eBay remains committed to responsible innovation.
In 2025, our enterprise-wide Responsible AI (RAI) program operationalized our core RAI principles, ensuring that as we innovate, we do so ethically. Further, by joining the EU AI Pact ahead of global deadlines, we reinforce our commitment to governance frameworks that can scale with our AI investments.

eBay continues to lead industry efforts against online wildlife trafficking. We work with governments, NGOs, industry peers, and eBay community members to enforce our Animal Products Policy. In 2025, eBay blocked approximately 1.8 million potential violations for prohibited wildlife items such as ivory and other products made from endangered or threatened species. As a founding member of the Coalition to End Wildlife Trafficking Online, we continue to work to educate consumers and policymakers about the threats of illegal wildlife trafficking.
