Canada coach Jesse Marsch was left less than impressed with his side’s early efforts.
He said after the draw: “We felt like we had them. You know like we were starting to push the game, the subs came on and made a big difference. We could see that they were fading.
“I’m disappointed with the first half. I felt we were tentative - we didn’t play as aggressively as I would have liked. We have got to find a way when we want to play as intensely and be hard to play against that we actually do it. We talked about it afterwards.
“Second half, the moment we stepped on the pitch, it was different. I told them we have got to learn these lessons, and we have got to learn from them quickly.
“We still have everything in hand and that’s a big point for us to keep ourselves in the group. We have to make sure the next performance is a reflection and learning point from what we learnt today.”

Another BBC pundit, former Manchester City defender Micah Richards, thinks Canada will be happy enough.
Canada did well to find a way through after looking largely toothless for much of the occasion.
Perhaps it was pressure, but perhaps it was just that they are far from the best team in the tournament.
Richards explained: “Canada were energetic in that first half and in the second half they kept it going. I feel as though they can rely on their subs. They dominated possession, Bosnia found it hard to get out at times.
“If you look at the whole performance, Canada can be really pleased.”

Former Manchester United and England forward Wayne Rooney was concise in his initial reaction to the match.
He believes that the two sides will ultimately be satisified to come away with a draw in their first match.
Rooney told the BBC: “I thought it was a good game and I thought Canada were really good and did enough to win the game, but I think both teams will take a point.”

Canada got their first point in World Cup history on Friday night as they kicked off their Group B obligations as hosts.
Both sides would have looked for three points to get their campaign underway as they target the chance to top the group and ensure a theoretically easier passage through the rest of the tournament.
However, ultimately it was a match where points were shared, with Bosnia-Herzegovina going ahead in the first half.
Jovo Lukic scored his first goal for his country on 21 minutes as he headed in a flick-on from the corner, with Jesse Marsch’s side struggling to contain their opponents in a series of early set pieces.
Canada were without Alphonso David, their star left-sided player from Bayern Munich, and striker Jonathan David appeared to be struggling with his own fitness.
The Juventus man was withdrawn in the second half by Marsch as he chased an equaliser, and Cyle Larin was introduced to add a new option up front.
The 31-year-old, who is due to turn his loan spell from Mallorca to Southampton into a permanent one in the coming days, was able to make the difference when he received a pass from Ismael Kone, moved away from his marker, and fired past the keeper.
With 12 minutes of normal time remaining, the co-hosts chased a second goal but were unable to break down their obdurate opponents.
Canada will play Qatar in their next match on Friday, 19 June, while Bosnia-Herzegovina will take on Switzerland the day before. Switzerland will face Canada this Saturday.

Kone toes the ball to Larin, he spins his marker and finds space, and fires the ball past the keeper with a great finish.
The last 15 minutes or so are now teed up for a frenetic end for both teams. The substitute worked.

A change up front could give the home side what they need to break their duck.

Here is the drinks break. I’m going off for a Lucozade and then a Vimto (still).

Neither of these side will be troubling the scorers when it comes to discussing eventual winners but this is an entertaining game. You have to love, too the dress sense of Bosnia’s Head Coach Sergej Barbarez, in his double-breasted blue suit and ice white t-shirt. He looks like he’s arrived straight from a polo match, he just needs a glass of Pimm’s and pair of shades to complete the ensemble.

David flashes at a shot but Katic gets a toe to it, and the ball trundles to the keeper. The hosts continue to struggle.

A host of changes for both sides.

Laryea sizes up the keeper and slides the ball past him after a swift one-touch approach from the hosts.
Kolasinac races behind him to toe the ball onto the woodwork and away, a huge intervention.
At the other end, Crepeau pulls off a great save to deny Demirovic.

There is a VAR review, but the decision is that no foul took place.

The hosts are behind, and they are struggling. Sarcastic actor Ryan Reynolds is apparently in the crowd, and he will be disappointed with his country’s showing so far.

Just spoke to a steward here at the FIFA Fan Festival and he reported that there is still a huge queue to get in. Canada are 1-0 down and half time is nigh and there are hundreds if not thousands desperate to play some part of this historic day. However, the roars when Bosnia scored showed how many of their number are here. I had been talking to one of the fans and told him I was Welsh. He was unnecessarily apologetic. But when Jovo Lukic’s effort crossed the line he shouted in my face ‘we love to ruin a f——- party’. Don’t we know it.

They have nothing to offer in terms of real skill so far.
Bosnia are well organised and obdurate enough at the back.

Millar’s cross is carried over the line for a corner. A rare chance for Canada after some struggles, but it comes to nothing, for now.

Oluwaseyi nudges a defender aside, turns towards goal, but makes a fairly poor effort to shoot at goal, his shot going well wide and high.

The away side are sitting back as they absorb pressure. They seem comfortable enough.

The forward gets to a flick-on to head past the keeper as the Bosnians go ahead!
The Canadians had struggled to keep set pieces under control and Lukic took advantage for Bosnia’s fourth corner of the game so far.
That is Lukic’s first international goal.

The ball bounces to David, just inside the box.
The striker connects cleanly with his shot, but it is straight at goalkeeper Vasilj.
Things are improving for the hosts.

There are some eye-catching videos circulating on social media of a big red march to the stadium - World Cup fever has clearly gripped the hosts. Stephen Warnock, who is in the stadium for BBC Sport, tells me the atmosphere is “genuinely amazing” and it feels like everyone who has a ticket senses a big opportunity for Canada. It will be interesting to see how Canada play and what Jesse Marsch has planned for them.

Hello and welcome to coverage from the World Cup of Canada vs Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Canadaian manager Jesse Marsch has a simple message for anyone wondering whether his side are ready for the weight of a home World Cup: they are not just ready for it, they want it.
“If you do this for a living, this is where you want to be,” Marsch said ahead of the Group B opener.
“I came to Canada to be the coach because I liked these guys and I believed they could fit the way I wanted to play, but I came here to lead them in the World Cup — in the home World Cup. I wanted this responsibility.”
Unfortunately for Canada, the biggest injury concern remains captain Alphonso Davies, who will miss the match with a hamstring injury suffered during Bayern Munich’s Champions League semi-final last month. But Marsch said an MRI on Wednesday brought encouraging signs.
“We’re getting ready to ramp things up,” the American said.
“He will not be available for tomorrow, but he’s showing, like he always has, a real good ability to recover from muscle injuries. We’re really hopeful that over the next days and weeks we can accelerate things and give him a chance to contribute here soon.”
Bosnia and Herzegovina know they are underdogs heading into the match but the Balkan nation will play with pride as they return to the tournament for the first time in 12 years.
Bosnia will look to advance past the group stage this time around after managing one win during their 2014 debut in Brazil.
“We are a small country,” head coach Sergej Barbarez said. “This is our second ever World Cup and for sure we are sort of an underdog in many of the matches ahead.”
But despite his side being ranked 64th, the coach is confident in his side’s ability to perform on the world’s biggest stage.
“If you know our results, I think you have to just admire what we’ve managed to achieve.”
