MI captain Hardik Pandya’s best years in the IPL came when he was the captain of Gujarat Titans in 2022 and 2023. Pandya led GT to the title in its maiden season in 2022, and fell short of a second title by the barest of margins in 2023.
Pandya has returned and become the captain of MI since then and has not been able to replicate the same success as captain with the five-time champions.
Can Pandya lead his side to a much-needed victory against his former side tonight? Any other result will make things very difficult for MI going forward.

MI opener Rohit Sharma missed the last game against PBKS after he suffered a hamstring injury against RCB, forcing him to cut short his stay at the crease and get retired hurt.
Although Rohit batted in the nets in Ahmedabad on the eve of the match, a decision on his participation is likely to be left till the last minute.
MI bowling coach Paras Mhambrey declared that Rohit was fit ahead of the game against GT, but whether that means Rohit will be pushed into the starting XI or MI will take it easy with his recovery remains to be seen.
Last time out
The last time the two sides faced off against each other was in the Eliminator of the 2025 season. Mumbai Indians, powered by Rohit Sharma’s 81 posted a mammoth total of 228/5 and despite GT’s best efforts, the Titans fell short of the target by 20 runs and MI progressed to Qualifier 2.
