A night that is all about the debutants. Sakib Hussain and Praful Hinge have carved their names into the annals of IPL history with a marvelous display with the ball against a destructive Rajasthan Royals batting line-up. The biggest smile on the ground right now is SRH bowling coach Varun Aaron, who is beaming like a proud father as he celebrates with his wards. 

Hinge did the initial damage, becoming the first bowler to take three wickets in the first over of a match, and shooting out the prodigious Vaibhav Suryavanshi first ball. Their collective efforts reduced Rajasthan Royals to nine for five in the PowerPlay, and all but killed a 200 chase. 

Donovan Ferreira and Ravindra Jadeja rallied briefly for Rajasthan, but it was too little too late as Sakib came back to shoot out the tail and earn SRH a victory that it so sorely needed.

A very good total on the board for Sunrisers Hyderabad there. It would have been fearing the worst when it lost Abhishek Sharma first ball, but Ishan Kishan played a captain’s knock to lead the way for the Orange Army. His knock of 91 from 44 balls led the way, while Heinrich Klaasen, who has now claimed the Orange Cap, was a strong support with 40. 

Nitish Kumar Reddy and Salil Arora also played impactful cameos at the back end of the innings to push SRH upto 216 for six. The job is only half-done though, because it now has to defend it against an RR team that has been batting like a dream.

Jofra Archer has something of a tendency to blow hot and cold with the ball, but the Englishman has been in good form so far this season. He has been especially effective with the new ball alongside Nandre Burger. 

The last time he came to Hyderabad with RR, he went wicketless in his four overs and went for 76 in his four-over spell.

Before the toss for the Punjab Kings match, Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Ishan Kishan announced that Vidarbha quick Praful Hinge would be making his IPL debut. HInge was named among SRH’s options for the Impact Player, with the assumption being that he would be brought in for the bowling innings.

However, when the SRH bowling innings started, Jaydev Unadkat was brought in as the Impact Player, meaning that Hinge did not make his IPL debut at all. Will tonight be the night he makes his debut?

Hetmyer has been used as a floater by the RR management, and to be fair, he hasn’t spent enough time in the middle as RR’s top three have been doing the heavy lifting so far.

Uncapped left-arm wrist spinner Shivang Kumar has been the lone bright spot in SRH’s otherwise expensive bowling attack. In SRH’s match against PBKS when Shreyas Iyer’s team plundered the Sunrisers bowlers, Shivang managed to take three wickets at an economy rate of less than 9 in a match where over 400 runs were scored.

With RR possessing an explosive and intimidating batting line up, Shivang will once again be key to SRH’s chances in today’s game.

Rajasthan Royals comes into this match with a perfect record after acing a chase of 202 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru last time out. 

After winning the toss and opting to bowl first, Riyan Parag’s men reduced the defending champion to 125 for seven before Rajat Patidar scored a half-century and Venkatesh Iyer played a late, fiery cameo to get the side upto 201 in its 20 overs.

It seemed a competitve score, but it was soon razed to ashes by brutal hitting by Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Dhruv Jurel. Suryavanshi carted the bowlers all over the ground as he blitzed 76 from 28 balls, before Jurel carried the team over the line for six-wicket win with his unbeaten 81 from 43 balls.

Sunrisers Hyderabad comes into this match having lost three of its first four matches, including a six-wicket loss to Punjab Kings in its last outing. 

That came inspite of a brutal exhibition of PowerPlay batting by Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, who put on 105 in the the first six overs. Both would fall in the same over to Shashank Singh, and that triggered a slowdown as SRH could only post 219 despite the headstart.

That total would prove vastly insufficient as Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh, and Shreyas Iyer all scored half-centuries to help PBKS chase down the total with seven balls to spare and help it maintain its unbeaten run.

These two sides only met once during the 2025 season, with Sunrisers Hyderabad coming out on top by 44 runs in Hyderabad. 

That victory came on the back of a debut century by Ishan Kishan, who smashed 106 not out from 47 balls, while Heinrich Klaasen, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Travis Head all played handy cameos to help SRH post a league-high 286 for six.

Rajasthan Royals tried its best in the chase, with Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurel both scoring brisk fifties, but it would ultimately fall 44 runs short.

Rajasthan Royals has been the best performing team of the season so far, winning all four of its games. SRH on the other hand has struggled for consistency and find itself in the bottom half of the table.

However, the last four games between the two sides has gone SRH’s way. SRH also holds the edge in the overall head-to-head record, having won 12 games out of 21. SRH’s record against RR in Hyderabad is 5-1 in favour of the home side as well.

But given the context of the season so far, RR come into this game with the upper hand and in a strong position to improve its record not just against SRH, but at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
