Punjab Kings crashed to its fifth consecutive defeat as a four wicket haul from Shardul Thakur and a half century from Tilak Varma helped Mumbai Indians win by six wickets in Dharamsala on Thursday night.

Despite not being part of the winning side, PBKS all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai was the standout performer of the night across both teams, contributing with both bat and ball.

For MI, it was Tilak who had the maximum impact as the middle order batter’s innings helped MI overhaul the target.

MUMBAI INDIANS

Ryan Rickelton: 6.5/10 - The South African played a breezy opening hand to get his side off to a positive start before falling just shy of his half-century (48 from 23 balls, four fours, four sixes).

Rohit Sharma: 3.5/10 - Rohit largely struggled for timing, getting a couple of big shots away but largely failing to cross run-a-ball at any point in his innings (25 from 26 balls, two sixes).

Naman Dhir: 4/10 - Dhir was unable to make any sizeable contribution to the game, hitting a single six before holing out (nine from six balls, one six).

Tilak Varma: 9/10- Tilak’s swashbuckling unbeaten half-century helped MI chase down the target against PBKS (75 off 33 balls, 6 fours, 6 sixes)

Sherfane Rutherford: 2/10- The West Indian was another who struggled for timing and rhythm today (20 off 21 balls, 1 four, 1 six).

Will Jacks: 6.5/10- Jacks bowled one over with the ball and went for nine runs (0/9 in 1 over). With the bat, the Englishman supported Tilak Varma well from the other end, smashing a couple of sixes and boundaries to bring down the equation within reach (25 off 10 balls, 2 fours, 2 sixes)..

Raj Angad Bawa: 5.5/10- The all-rounder bowled just the one over but took a stunning catch at mid wicket to dismiss Suryansh Shedge (0/11 from one over).

Corbin Bosch: 3.5/10- The South African took the wicket of Shashank Singh but leaked runs in the penultimate over of the first innings (1/42 from four overs).

Deepak Chahar: 7.5/10- Chahar took the important wicket of Priyansh Arya in the PowerPlay and while he was expensive in the death overs, he made up for the runs with another crucial wicket of Azmatullah Omarzai (2/36 from four overs).

Shardul Thakur: 7.5/10- The fast bowler’s knack of taking regular wickets came to the fore as Thakur struck four times to help MI take control of the contest (4/39 from four overs).

Jasprit Bumrah: 5.5/10- The stand in captain for Mumbai Indians failed to take a wicket tonight but bowled a largely economical spell (0/35 from four overs).

Raghu Sharma: 3.5/10- The leg spinner bowled only the two overs today and did not make much of an impact (0/22 from two overs).

PUNJAB KINGS

Priyansh Arya: 2.5/10 - Arya played a few nicely timed strokes, but was not at his fluent best as Punjab Kings got off to a solid start (22 from 27 balls, four fours).

Prabhsimran Singh: 6.5/10: Prabhsimran continued his good form this season with another half century but could not convert it to a big score (47 off 32 balls, 6 fours, 4 sixes).

Cooper Connolly: 2/10- The Australian struggled to get going and was dismissed by Raj Bawa in the 13th over (21 off 22 balls, 2 fours, 1 six).

Shreyas Iyer: 4.5/10- The PBKS captain had a short stay at the crease. Shreyas got off the mark with a boundary but was bowled by Shardul Thakur in the very next delivery (4 off 2 balls, 1 four).

Shashank Singh: 4/10- Shashank’s search for runs continued as the middle order batter failed to make an impression once again (2 off 3 balls).

Suryansh Shedge: 4.5/10- Suryansh played the shot of the night when he lofted a six over mid off but a stunning diving catch by Raj Bawa at mid wicket brought his stay at the crease to an end (8 off 5 balls, 1 six).

Marco Jansen: 1/10- It was a nothing innings from the South African, and will be hoping to contribute with the ball (2 off 7 balls). Jansen had a night to forget with the ball as well as he leaked runs (1/55 from four overs).

Azmatullah Omarzai: 9.5/10- The Afghan all-rounder played a handy innings in the back end of the first innings to to help PBKS avert a batting collapse (38 off 17 balls, 2 fours, 4 sixes). Omarzai contributed with the ball as well, taking two wickets (2/36 from four overs).

Xavier Bartlett: 3/10- The Aussie’s power packed cameo propelled the PBKS to 200 (18 off 7 balls, 2 fours, 1 six). With the ball, Bartlett had an off day (0/34 from three overs)

Arshdeep Singh: 7/10- Arshdeep started well with the new ball, but could not control the flow of runs in the death overs (0/29 from four overs).

Yuzvendra Chahal: 7/10- The leg spinner cleaned up Rohit Sharma with a beauty but was taken for 20 runs in his final over (1/32 from four overs).

Vishnu Vinod (impact sub): 5.5/10- Vinod came into bat as the impact sub after the wicket of Marco Jansen and smashed a six and a four in the eight deliveries he faced (15 off 8 balls, 1 four, 1 six)

The rating points are an output of a relative grading based on CricViz Match Impact scores from the PBKS vs MI match.

CricViz Match Impact quantifies the additional or reduced runs contributed by a player in comparison to an average player operating within the identical game context. Each delivery is assessed and assigned a positive or negative run value, reflecting how it influences the team’s expected total.
