Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has asked corporates to contribute to the State’s development through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
At a meeting on CSR funds with representatives of various companies on Wednesday, the Chief Minister stressed that companies’ spending under CSR initiatives must yield 100 per cent positive results.
The State government accorded top priority to education, healthcare, and water resource conservation, he said.
The contributions made towards social development by the corporate companies should be considered as a subscription of the partners and not merely as expenditure in the development of the state or the well-being of the people, he said
He suggested that the companies choose the sectors in which they wish to utilise the CSR funds.
The Chief Minister noted that the students will possess the skills to seize opportunities if the government and companies spend money together.
The CM further stated that the government considers education expenditure an investment in future generations.
About 44 per cent of the state’s student population resides in Hyderabad city alone, he said, adding that the responsibility of providing them with quality education rests on all sections of society.
Since the companies were utilising all the local infrastructure available in a region, the Chief Minister said the management should allocate a significant portion of their CSR funds to developing that region.
In view of the lack of a proper mechanism for utilising CSR funds, the CM said that the government has already appointed a Special Chief Secretary specifically for this purpose.
The company representatives were requested to coordinate with the official to utilise their CSR funds for any area of their interest—such as education, healthcare, water resources, skill development, preservation of heritage structures, or forest conservation, according to a release.
