The Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference (VGRC) for South Gujarat attracted investment commitments worth ₹3.53 lakh crore, with 2,792 MoUs signed over two days, the state government stated in an official release Saturday.
The investments are expected to generate over 2.82 lakh jobs in South Gujarat over the next three years, spanning key sectors such as textiles, garments, chemicals and manufacturing. The government also highlighted a push to promote non-polluting industries and garment units in tribal districts, with over 25,000 women expected to gain employment in work-from-home roles.
Union Health Minister JP Nadda, addressing the closing session, said the scale of investment commitments reflects Gujarat’s strong industrial ecosystem and growing global connectivity, adding that regions such as Surat and Bharuch are emerging as major manufacturing hubs. Highlighting the sectoral strengths of South Gujarat, the Union Minister said that, from Surat’s diamond and textile industries to the chemical and fertiliser industries of Bharuch, Dahej, and Ankleshwar, these sectors have become global hubs. Now, along with textiles, the garmenting industry is being linked to tribal areas, opening new avenues of development that will be considered a major achievement for both the local region and the state government.
