The Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) on Tuesday expelled its lone MLA, S Kamaraj, for allegedly indulging in anti-party activities after he expressed support for the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.
Kamaraj, who represents the Mannargudi Assembly constituency, was the only AMMK member in the 17th Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.
In a statement, AMMK General Secretary TTV Dhinakaran said Kamaraj had violated the party’s stand by “arbitrarily” expressing support for the TVK during Assembly proceedings, which he said was against the party’s principles and objectives.
Dhinakaran alleged that Kamaraj’s actions amounted to a “great betrayal” of AMMK cadres, alliance party workers, and the voters of Mannargudi who had supported his election victory.
The party announced that Kamaraj had been removed from all party responsibilities, including his primary membership in the AMMK.
