State-owned Bharat Electronics Ltd’s (BEL) over ₹562 crore investment in UP defence industrial corridor (UPDIC) rolled out on Wednesday with the allotment of 75 hectares of land in the Chitrakoot node to begin production of defence systems. Under this project, the BEL will establish an advanced manufacturing unit for the production of state-of-the-art radar and air defence systems.

So far, the UPDIC has attracted over ₹34,000 crore in investments, with ₹12,000 crore already disbursed across six nodes covering Aligarh, Agra, Jhansi, Kanpur, Chitrakoot, and Lucknow. As per the UPDIC officials, at least 62 industries have been allotted land across the six nodes for production and testing facilities. They include; BrahMos Aerospace Private Ltd , Adani Defence and Aerospace, Aerolloy Technologies Ltd, Werywin Defence Ltd, Nitya Creations, Sankalp Safety, and Amitec Electronics Ltd.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath handed over the land allotment letter to the BEL Chairman and Managing Director Manoj Jain for establishing the production facility in the Chitrakoot node which has better logistics connectivity and geographical suitability.

“This initiative will play an important role in establishing Uttar Pradesh as a strong and reliable identity in the field of defence manufacturing, while also accelerating the overall economic and industrial development of the Bundelkhand region,” Adityanath said.

It will not only strengthen high-technology-based production in the defence sector but also provide a new direction to the expansion of industrial efficiency and technical capabilities in the State, as per an official statement.

“Under this project, Bharat ElectronicsLtd will establish an advanced manufacturing unit for the production of state-of-the-art radar and air defence systems with an investment of approximately ₹562.5 crore,” the CM stated.

As a result, there is a possibility of generating more than 300 direct employment opportunities, while large-scale indirect employment will also be created in ancillary and allied sectors, opening new avenues for local youth, Yogi Adityanath said.

According to the CM, the move will significantly reduce migration to other regions for jobs as well as strengthen the regional economy, and institutionally promote the development of technically skilled human resources, research and innovation. In the process it will lead to the creation of a modern industrial ecosystem in the State.
