Tamil Nadu is set to house a new Common Technology Facility (CTF) for space vehicles in Thoothukudi.

The agreement for this facility was signed between the State Industries department and the national space body IN-SPACe on June 11. It was presented to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Wednesday. The facility is set to come up within the upcoming Space Industrial Park in Allikulam, Thoothukudi.

According to the agreement, IN-SPACe will provide ₹100 crore worth of equipment, while the Tamil Nadu government will contribute adequate land and supporting infrastructure.

The Common Technology Facility is said to offer advanced testing for vibration and shock, thermal-vacuum, electromagnetic interference/electromagnetic compatibility (EMI/EMC), pressure and flow, propulsion, launch vehicle assembly, component integration, and other operations. It will act as the backbone for space activities, enabling space-sector companies from across India to access world-class testing services.

The industrial park, where the CTF is set to be housed, is being developed near the proposed launch facility at Kulasekarapattinam. It will serve as a manufacturing hub for launch vehicle components, satellite systems, propulsion systems, aerospace electronics, advanced composite structures, and other space hardware.

On behalf of the Tamil Nadu Government, the agreement was signed by D Karthikeyan, Chairman and Managing Director of TIDCO, while on behalf of IN-SPACe, it was signed by its Joint Secretary, Anupam Anand.
