Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has on Saturday directed the officials and contractors engaged in the construction works of Amaravati to finish the work as per schedule in 2028.
In a review meeting with various contractual agencies involved in capital construction, the Chief Minister instructed officials to continuously monitor progress and ensure timely completion.
The construction works worth ₹57,821 crore were currently underway at various stages in Amaravati capital region, out of which projects worth ₹50,943 crore have already been grounded, the officials informed.
At present, around 20,000 workers and experts are engaged in capital construction works. The Chief Minister reviewed the performance of each contractor, assessing progress against targets and expressed dissatisfaction with delays by certain agencies.
The contractors said there was a manpower shortage due to ongoing elections in various states as most of the workers travelled back to their native places to cast their votes. The Chief Minister advised them to utilise locally available skilled manpower to the maximum extent.
Weekly and monthly targets should be set and should be implemented strictly, Naidu said adding there was no shortage of funds for capital construction.
The Chief Minister expressed displeasure over the negligence of construction agencies in safeguarding materials. Such lapses were leading to criticism of the government. Stating that both contractors and officials failed to respond adequately to recent incidents at the construction sites, he said there should be no lapses in a “politically sensitive” environment in the state.
Immediate alerts should be issued in case of any untoward incidents and negligence would not be tolerated, he added, according to a release.
