Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday requested Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, to expedite the Srikakulam-Kakinada natural gas pipeline project.
The Union Minister assured that the matter would be reviewed soon and that necessary action would be taken to accelerate the project, a government release said.
At a review meeting held in Amaravati on Friday, the Chief Minister was informed about pending decisions relating to the project at the Central level. On learning about this, Naidu spoke to the Union Minister over the phone and sought speedy completion of the project.
The Chief Minister also directed officials and oil companies to address domestic gas supply challenges arising from global conflicts and asked them to promote the use of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) as a preferred alternative.
Reviewing the measures being taken by oil companies to expand PNG connections and overcome supply constraints, Naidu set a target of providing one million (10 lakh) PNG connections within the next six months.
He further instructed officials to create awareness among beneficiaries of the Deepam scheme about the advantages of switching to PNG. Beneficiaries opting for PNG would continue to receive the subsidy provided under the Deepam scheme, he said.
