No one can stop development of the Greenfield capital of Andhra Pradesh, Amaravati, and major construction works will be completed in 2028, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said

Addressing a press conference in Amaravati on Friday, Naidu said Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who laid the foundation stone for Amaravati and returned for a second time after the NDA government resumed construction in 2024, would inaugurate the city’s major projects in 2029.

Amaravati is now unstoppable with Parliament passing the Bill granting legal status to the capital, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said, describing it as a victory for the five crore people of Andhra Pradesh and for the people’s capital.

Celebrating the occasion by distributing sweets at his camp office on Friday and later speaking to the media, the Chief Minister said that all parties, barring the YSR Congress Party, had extended support to the Amaravati Capital Bill aimed at providing statutory status to the capital.

The Chief Minister said that State governments led by regional parties must honour the Bills passed by Parliament and expressed surprise over the remarks of YSR Congress Party leaders about changing the capital if the party returns to power.

Pending issues

He said the previous government had failed to pursue the pending issues arising from the State’s bifurcation and had pushed Andhra Pradesh into a severe debt trap by mortgaging government properties during its five-year tenure.

The Chief Minister said that, despite financial constraints, the coalition government, after coming to power, was focusing equally on development and welfare, balancing both through short-, medium- and long-term planning.

He asserted that infrastructure development would be the key driver of growth and expressed confidence that the State would achieve a $2.4-trillion economy by 2047, with Amaravati serving as the growth engine in that journey.
