Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Wednesday transferred Rs 1,100 each to the bank accounts of more than 94 lakh beneficiaries of various social security schemes to mark Narendra Modi setting the record of being the longest serving elected prime minister of the country.

The CM transferred the amount under six schemes of the state government, including those for senior citizens, widows and persons with disabilities, at a programme here.

The Bihar government had last year increased the monthly pensions of senior citizens, widows and people with disabilities from Rs 400 to Rs 1,100.

According to a statement issued by the chief minister's office here, "On the occasion of Narendra Modi completing the longest tenure as an elected prime minister, the CM transferred a pension of Rs 1,100 each directly to the bank accounts of more than 94 lakh beneficiaries. The CM said providing social security to Bihar's poor, deprived, and needy sections is the responsibility of his government." The CM also announced that the pension amount would henceforth be credited to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries on the 10th day of every month.

He said that persons aged 60 years or above who are not yet receiving benefits under the schemes should apply immediately.

The Social Welfare Department runs six pension schemes for elderly people, widows and differently-abled persons.

These schemes include Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme, Mukhyamantri Vridhjan Pension Yojana, Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme, Lakshmibai Social Security Pension Scheme, Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme and Bihar State Disability Pension Scheme.
