Chennai-based space startup Agnikul Cosmos has successfully test fired three semi-cryogenic rocket engines simultaneously - a first-of-its kind achievement when it comes to firing of 3 semi cryogenic engines together as a cluster in India.

The electric pump-fed engines were designed and manufactured in-house at AgniKul Cosmos Rocket Factory - 1.

Srinath Ravichandran, Co-Founder & CEO at AgniKul said thatmore number of engines improves the rocket’s performance, and a three engine system is needed for the launch of commercial missions.

“This test involved calibrating 6 pumps, 6 motors and tuning 6 speed control algorithms to work together in perfect sync to achieve uniform startup, steady state and shutdown performance across the entire system,” the startup said in a post on X.

Ravichandran said that the company will be working to push this number of engines higher and the actual number of engines in each launch depends upon the mission and customer requirements. He added that

The startup had used a single engine in its debut launch with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in May 2024. Subsequently, in October 2025, it successfully conducted a simultaneous firing of two semi-cryogenic engines.
