A 24-year old woman from Therku Thittangulam, near Kovilpatti, has died after falling off the hilltop of Ucchipillayar temple at Kalugumalai in the district.

Police identified her as S. Anitha, 24, from Therku Thittangulam. She got married to Suresh, 29, from Osanoothu village in Ottapidaram taluk in May.

They said Anitha and her husband went to the temple on Friday. While at the hilltop, she reportedly fed bananas to the monkeys. The animals allegedly surrounded her, causing her to panic, and she fell from the hilltop while attempting to escape and died on the spot.

Upon receiving information, Kalugumalai police and Fire and Rescue Services personnel rushed to the spot and and sent the body for post-mortem examination at the government hospital in Kovilpatti.

A case was registered at Kalugumalai police station under section BNSS 194 (3). Further investigation is under.
