Chennaiyin hopes to end barren home run in SC Delhi clash Chennaiyin FC is on a freefall after collecting just a solitary point from its last three Indian Super League matches.
The southern club, however, will get another platform to restore some respectability to its floundering campaign when it locks horns with SC Delhi at home on Friday. While Chennaiyin – positioned 12th after having won only five points from seven games – is currently not in danger of being relegated, it would not want to be in that conversation in the home straight.
CFC head coach Clifford Miranda expressed optimism about sparking a turnaround in the clash against Delhi (ninth in the standings with eight points from seven matches). “Although we have not had the results, I have seen progress. The team is starting to play the way I want it to. The goal is to finish as high as possible on the table. We want to win our remaining six games, but we will take one match at a time,” said Miranda on Thursday.
But the task will be easier said than done against Delhi, which heads into the encounter on the back of two successive victories. “Delhi is a young side, but it is a team that plays with a lot of heart. It wants to play attractive football. It will be a good contest between two teams that like to keep the ball on the ground,” added Miranda.
Nothing but marked improvement will help CFC end its barren run at home.
