Coimbatore district panchayat has been selected for the Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar–2025 presented by the Union Ministry of Panchayati Raj.
According to officials, a total of 42 panchayats from across the country have been selected for national awards under various categories this year. The awards will be presented in New Delhi on June 3.
The national awards are presented under two major categories. The Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar is awarded to gram panchayats for implementing nine Sustainable Development Goals, including poverty alleviation, healthcare, child welfare, drinking water management, sanitation, environmental protection and women’s safety.
The Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar is presented to district, block and village panchayats for overall performance and governance.
Officials said eight panchayats have been selected for the Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar–2025, including three district panchayats, two block panchayats and three village panchayats.
In the category for best district panchayat, Coimbatore secured the third place at the national level. The district panchayat will receive a cash award of ₹2 crore along with a certificate of appreciation for development works undertaken in rural areas.
