The Karnataka Housing Board (KHB) has invited tenders for the construction of a new international cricket stadium with a seating capacity of 80,000 at Suryanagar 4th Phase in Anekal taluk, on the southeastern outskirts of Bengaluru.
The project, estimated at ₹943.46 crore, will be executed on an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC Mode-1) turnkey basis through a two-bid system via the Karnataka Public Procurement Portal, the tender notification said.

According to the tender notification, the scope of work includes the design, engineering, procurement and construction of the international cricket stadium along with allied development works at the KHB layout in Indlawadi, Anekal. Eligible contractors registered with Central Public Works Department, Karnataka Public Works Department, or other State government agencies can participate in the bidding process.
The last date for submitting pre-bid queries is April 22, till 4 p.m., followed by a pre-bid meeting scheduled for April 24 at 11 a.m. Bids must be submitted by May 8 at 4 p.m.
The project was announced this year in the State Budget, where Chief Minister Siddaramaiah proposed the development of ‘KHB Surya Kreeda Grama’, an international-standard sports complex featuring an 80,000-seat cricket stadium designed to host major sporting events.
Story so far
The proposal had already received approval in August 2025 from the Chief Minister, when the KHB had proposed to build a state-of-the-art sports complex, including the stadium, at Surya City in Bommasandra. Once completed, the facility is likely to be among the largest cricket stadiums in the country.
The sports facility was proposed in the backdrop of the June 4, 2025, stampede at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s maiden win, which claimed 11 lives. The Justice John Michael Cunha Commission, which probed the incident, observed that the existing stadium, with a seating capacity of around 32,000 and spread over 17 acres, was not suitable for hosting large-scale events. It recommended shifting such events to a more spacious venue.
Since then, there were proposals for relocating major events to venues on the city’s outskirts that can accommodate larger crowds and provide adequate infrastructure, including parking and crowd management facilities.
