Former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has accused those who came to power promising “clean politics” of practicing “dirty politics” with reference to the alleged split in the AIADMK.

In a statement, M.K. Stalin noted that DMK members boycotted the vote of confidence in line with the stance that the DMK would not be an obstacle to the formation of the TVK government.

Furthermore, he stated, “Members of our alliance parties, Premallatha Vijayakant, Jawahirullah, Thamimun Ansari, and Nithyanandam have also staged a walkout. Alliance parties such as the Communist Party of India, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Indian Union Muslim League, and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi have voted in favor of the government during the vote of confidence to ensure that President’s rule is not imposed in Tamil Nadu. We respect their decision as well.”

“However, the TVK has engaged in activities that shattered the trust of everyone who paved the way for this government to be formed. Even though the numbers required for the government to remain stable were available due to the stance of the DMK’s alliance partners, they have ‘purchased’ members from the AIADMK, splitting it,” he said.

“If your beginning is like this, how will the end be? The people are also going to see what ‘Return Gift’ you are going to give to those members of the split AIADMK. As far as the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam is concerned, it will continue to remain firm in its principles and function as a constructive opposition party,” M.K. Stalin remarked.

His statement came after the government’s motion of confidence was passed in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on May 13.
