The Forum of Registered Teachers’ Organisations (FORTO) has urged the government to classify the posts of Zilla Parishad Headmasters and Mandal Education Officers (MEOs) as zonal posts in the proposed new Local Cadre Organisation.

Representatives of FORTO met Special Chief Secretary (Services-GAD) S. S. Rawat on Friday and submitted a representation in this regard. The association leaders said the two posts play a key role in the education system and therefore deserve appropriate administrative recognition.

They said that, on a par with Government Headmaster posts, the posts of Zilla Parishad Headmasters and Mandal Education Officers should also be treated as zonal posts. Such a move, they said, would help ensure fairness in promotions and transfers, besides improving administrative functioning.

Keeping in view the interests of teachers and the need for transparency and efficiency in educational administration, the leaders urged the government to take an early and favourable decision on the issue.

The delegation that met Mr. Rawat included Navyandhra Teachers Association (NTA) State general secretary M. Srinivasa Rao, Democratic Progressive Recognised Teachers’ Union (DPRTU) State president D. Srinu, Post-Graduate Teachers Association (PGTA) president Veeraiah, Chandrasekhar, Syed Shehanaz and others.
