Following Chief Minister M. K. Stalin’s call for a Statewide protest, cadres of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) on Thursday staged demonstrations across central districts against the Union Government’s proposed Delimitation Bill.
Party leaders hoisted black flags atop their residences and burnt copies of the Bill as a mark of protest.
In Tiruchi, the DMK cadre gathered at Karumandapam, waving black flags and raising slogans. Minister for Municipal Administration K.N. Nehru participated in the protest and burned copies of the Bill. He campaigned in the Tiruchi West constituency, dressed in black to signify dissent. Black flags were seen at the residence of School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi in Thennur.
Minister for Natural Resources S. Regupathy hoisted a black flag at his residence in Pudukottai. Meanwhile, in Thiruvarankulam, Minister for Backwards Classes Welfare Siva V. Meyyanathan led a protest demonstration. North District Secretary K.K. Chellapandian also took part in the protest.
In Thanjavur, a protest was held in front of the old bus stand with senior leaders and cadre participating in large numbers. Among those present were former Union Minister of State for Finance S. S. Palanimanickam and MLA T.K.G. Neelamegam. Participants raised slogans condemning the proposed exercise.
