Director General of Police C.V. Anand on Thursday reviewed the functioning and operational preparedness of Telangana’s elite forces, Greyhounds and OCTOPUS, during separate visits to their headquarters, stressing the need for enhanced combat readiness, advanced training and modernisation.
At the Greyhounds headquarters, the DGP conducted a comprehensive review of anti-Maoist operations and assessed the force’s performance in handling insurgency-related duties. He reviewed existing training standards, curriculum and operational modules, directing the leadership to further strengthen preparedness through regular firing practice and rigorous training.
Mr. Anand also reviewed the issue of manpower reduction in Greyhounds in view of declining Maoist activity. He informed officers that a proposal concerning 708 surrendered posts is pending with the State government and said repatriations would be carried out after necessary approvals.
Later, the DGP visited the OCTOPUS Commando Training Centre at Ibrahimpatnam, where he inspected the administration and training blocks, operational facilities and newly developed infrastructure.
He reviewed the force’s preparedness to respond to terror-related incidents and assessed the functioning of the Special Weapons and Tactics teams and the training wing.
DGP Operations Anil Kumar briefed him on mock exercises being conducted at vulnerable installations, counter-terror preparedness drills and specialised training in handling advanced weapons and operational equipment.
Addressing officers and commandos, Mr. Anand stressed the importance of conducting mock operations in diverse building structures and real-time scenarios to improve response capabilities. He emphasised maintaining the highest standards of physical fitness, alertness and round-the-clock readiness.
The DGP also reviewed requirements for modern equipment and infrastructure upgrades for OCTOPUS and advised the force to strengthen strategies for securing both existing and upcoming airport facilities.
