The price of green cardamom hit a seven-year high of over ₹6,000 per kg on Monday. According to Spices Board officials, the morning auction held on April 27 by Speciality Indian Food Parks Exports Private Limited at the Spices Park in Puttady here quoted a maximum price of ₹6,103 per kg, while the average price stood at ₹2,608 per kg. The average price, however, dipped to ₹2,545 in the second auction on Monday.
Spices Board sources noted that the all-time record for cardamom remains ₹7,000 per kg, set in August 2019. “After a long interval, the cardamom price has once again crossed the ₹6,000 mark,” said a source.
