Additional Director General of Police (Law & Order) Mahesh Bhagwat emphasised that no one is immune to road accidents and urged citizens, especially young motorists, to strictly follow traffic rules.

Addressing students at the “Arrive Alive” programme organised at Woxsen University in Sangareddy on Thursday, he stressed the importance of mandatory use of helmets and seat belts, and advised motorists to avoid over speeding.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Paritosh Pankaj said that the campaign is being organised for a week across the district to reduce road accidents through awareness and education.

During the programme, students of university showcased a smart safety helmet developed as part of an innovative road safety initiative. The university management explained that the helmet is equipped with sensors that detect high temperatures during accidents or emergencies and activate a cooling mechanism. The device is also capable of transmitting accident information to the local police, recording the vehicle’s speed at the time of impact, and triggering an SOS alert, particularly useful for women travelling alone.

In addition, a smart fire safety system designed for buses was demonstrated. The system detects smoke, automatically activates safety mechanisms, and includes an automatic glass-breaking feature to help passengers escape easily in the event of a fire.
