Madurai Railway Division has registered a robust performance during 2025–26 by achieving its highest-ever revenue earnings of ₹1,408.69 crore, surpassing the target of ₹1,340 crore by 5%. This is also a growth of 13% over the previous year’s earnings of ₹1,245 crore.
A statement said the division also achieved its highest-ever passenger earnings of ₹886.32 crore against the target of ₹863.9 crore, surpassing it by 3%. During the year, the division handled 4.89 crore passengers against the targeted 4.62 crore passengers, registering a growth of 6%.
In freight operations, the division earned a record ₹411 crore against the target of ₹375.05 crore, exceeding it by 10%. It also achieved freight loading of 3.572 million tonnes against the targeted 3.149 million tonnes. The Business Development Unit successfully captured new traffic of yellow peas, generating revenue of ₹2.75 crore, the statement said.
Parcel earnings
Earnings through handling parcels reached an all-time high of ₹10.78 crore against the target of ₹10.76 crore. In ticket checking, the division achieved its highest-ever earnings of ₹12.73 crore, surpassing the target of ₹12.67 crore, while train manning improved from 95% to 97%.
Through commercial utilisation of assets, including advertisement contracts, the division achieved its best-ever earnings of ₹8.58 crore against the targeted ₹5.81 crore, marking an increase of 48%.
Parking contracts generated a record ₹7.45 crore against the target of ₹7.09 crore. Sale of scrap fetched ₹27.38 crore revenue during the financial year 2025–26, registering a growth of 16.02% over the previous year’s earnings of ₹23.60 crore, it added.
