As many as three towing vehicles will be deployed in the Jayanagar zone of the Bengaluru South City Corporation from next week, according to the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA).

South Corporation Commissioner K.N. Ramesh inspected the vehicles on Saturday and said they will be officially handed over to the Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) soon, following which the operations will commence.

The development comes after towing operations resumed in the central and western parts of the city after nearly four years. While towing operations were entirely outsourced earlier, the BTP and civic bodies will now jointly carry out the operations.

A BTP source told The Hindu that the towing initiative will complement the Cobra Beat, which was launched last year to address congestion on connecting roads caused by improper parking.

In addition, the corporations are implementing a pay-and-park system and identifying new no-parking zones to complement towing operations. However, the implementation has been slow, as it has been the case with the deployment of towing vehicles. Although joint towing operations were discussed in July 2025, they have not been fully implemented so far. Sources said that the transition from BBMP to GBA delayed the process, and the late procurement of vehicles further contributed to the delay.
