Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad, in collaboration with Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL), and Hyderabad-based Innomet Advanced Materials Ltd., has launched a project for indigenous development of a 100-kg inert gas atomiser facility.
It’s funded by DRDO Industry Academia Centre of Excellence at Indian Institute of Technology BHU Varanasi under Directorate of Futuristic Technology Management. The IITH and DMRL will play a technological and research role alongside industry partner Innomet.
It aims to develop a 100 kg scale gas atomiser for producing high-purity spherical metal powders for aerospace, defence, energy, and additive manufacturing applications. These powders include nickel-based superalloys, steels, cobalt alloys, and high-entropy alloys for advanced strategic systems. The facility will be located at Innomet premises in Hyderabad and will also be made avaialable for DRDO and IITH research for five years.
