A vote for DMK will ensure the continuance of good governance for the people of Tamil Nadu, said MDMK principal secretary and Lok Sabha MP Durai Vaiko here on Saturday.
Seeking support for his party candidate and sitting MLA Pudur M Boominathan, who is in the fray in Madurai South Assembly Constituency, he said the welfare programmes for the needy had to continue in the State. Hence, the people should vote the DMK to power again.
Attacking the BJP-led government at the Centre for LPG shortage, among other essential goods, he said the common man had been pushed to misery due to the wrong policies of the Union government.
When many BJP-run States in the country were in ruins, the Centre conveniently forgot them and found fault with States like Tamil Nadu, where the people were safe and progress was happening all around. Hence, fascist forces such as the BJP and the RSS should not be allowed to enter the State at any cost, he said and urged the electorate to support the DMK front.
Explaining the reason for MDMK’s support to DMK, Mr Durai Vaiko said that secular forces had to be united, which was why Chief Minister M.K. Stalin had accommodated all like-minded parties under its umbrella. Allies such as MDMK were more interested in protecting the people of Tamil Nadu than fighting for the number of seats.
There was absolute cordiality among the alliance partners, he said and endorsed the prediction of Mr. Stalin that they would win over 200 out of 234 seats.
Mr. Boominathan had toiled hard for the people of Madurai South and it would be fitting to vote him again in the Rising Sun symbol, he added.
The MDMK leader campaigned at Ramarayar Mandapam, Anupanadi and Kamarajapuram and among other points in the city.
