The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has sought permission to remove 3,627 trees for the construction of the Phase-3 Corridor-2 Metro project between Hosahalli and Kadabagere, according to a public notice issued by the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA).

The proposal, published by the Office of the Deputy Conservator of Forests and Tree Officer, GBA, stated that the BMRCL has submitted an application for the removal of 3,699 trees, of which 3,627 trees fall within the jurisdiction of the GBA.

The trees are located along the proposed 12.5-km elevated metro corridor, also known as the Orange Line, connecting Hosahalli and Kadabagere under Package-04 of Phase-3 Corridor-2. The project includes the construction of elevated viaducts, stations, portal piers, service roads, loops, utility diversion works and associated infrastructure, according to officials.

Affected stretch

The officials said that the affected stretch will accommodate nine elevated metro stations, namely Hosahalli, KHB Colony, Kamakshipalya, Sumanahalli Cross, Sunkadakatte, Herohalli, Byadarahalli, Kamath Layout and Kadabagere.

The notice reveals that the trees proposed for removal comprises 2,426 trees belonging to different species and 1,201 arecanut trees. The tree enumeration and project details have been uploaded on the GBA website for public reference.

The BMRCL officials said that the tree removal proposal is linked to the execution of civil works required for the elevated metro corridor. “The trees are standing within the project area required for the construction of elevated structures, including viaducts and stations, along with portal piers, service roads, road-widening, utility diversion and allied works of the BMRCL Phase-3 Corridor-2,” an official said.

Objections and suggestions

According to the notice, as mandated under the Karnataka Preservation of Trees Act, 1976, the public have been invited to submit objections, comments or suggestions regarding the proposed tree-felling. Citizens can send their representations either to the Deputy Conservator of Forests and Tree Officer, GBA, or directly to the BMRCL officials specified in the notice.

The last date for filing objections is 10 days from the date of publication of the notification, which was issued on June 17, 2026.
