The Washermenpet All Women Police has arrested a 26-year-old man on charges of stalking a 20-year-old woman.
According to police, the woman from Tondiarpet, in her third year of college, filed a complaint alleging she was being repeatedly harassed by a man while returning home from college.
According to the complaint, the student travels to and from her college by bus every day. After getting down at a bus stop near her residence in the evening and while walking through the Netaji Nagar Market area, she was frequently subjected to harassment by a man who runs a meat shop in the locality. The accused reportedly teased her, repeatedly followed her, and attempted to engage her in unwanted conversations on multiple occasions.
Based on the complaint lodged at All Women Police Station, a case was registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act (TNPHW Act). Police subsequently launched an investigation and arrested the accused, identified as Abrose, a resident of Netaji Nagar, Tondiarpet.
